Children have contributed to the effort to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Earlier this week, parents Hilary and Jordan Clark of Omro took their children to the American Red Cross where their son Harrison made a donation.

"I thought it was kind of cool," Harrison said.

5-year-old Harrison was talking about the nonprofit. He had just donated about $10 of his allowance money to help Hurricane Harvey victims. He said he likes to give.

"Cause I think it’s nice."

"That's kind of the principle I want them to have," his mother said.  "That you have the power to make a difference, and if no one does anything, it's not going to change."

His mother said Harrison was worried about the victims of the storm.  She suggested he do something to help them.

"If he used his money, it would go to helping the people who are needing to leave their homes and things," she said.  "He was like 'Yeah, that sounds good.  I really want to do that.' "

She said he felt better afterwards.

Harrison receives five dollars each week and divides it into three jars for spending, saving, and helping others.

His sister Zoe was still considering her charity of choice.

"After this day, I will do it," she said.

Harrison said he signed his name after giving his donation to the Red Cross.

"It’s just great to see young children like that learning early to give and support their communities," said Nick Cluppert, Disaster Program Manager for the Northeast Wisconsin chapter of the American Red Cross.

The Red Cross has sent over 90 volunteers from Wisconsin to help in Texas so far.
