Officials search Lake Puckaway for missing ATV

Posted

At 6:41 p.m. Sunday, the Green Lake County Sheriff's Office received a report of a possible ATV through the ice on Lake Puckaway. Emergency and rescue units were paged to respond to the southwest corner of Lake Puckaway, south side, north of Oak Road in the town of Marquette.

The reporting party advised that they had observed what appeared to be an ATV coming towards the open water river channel, then, the headlights disappeared.

Deputy staff and emergency responding units, including a Hovercraft, began to arrive at about 7 p.m. and deployed from a staging area located at the end of Oak Road. Public access points, boat landings, and other locations were searched including the open water portion of the Fox River on Lake Puckaway. Search efforts were complicated by a period of rain, hail and intense lightning; however, no ATV or location of the incident could be found.

At about 9:15 p.m. the search was suspended. As of 9 a.m. today, no reports of missing persons have been taken and no additional evidence of a break through has been discovered.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will be re-checking the reported location of the incident with an air boat during the daylight today.

This incident was responded to by the Green Lake County Sheriff's Office, Wisconsin DNR and State Patrol, Markesan EMS, Medical First Responders, Princeton Water Rescue and the fire departments of Kingston, Dalton, Marquette and Markesan.
