At about 2:10 p.m. Dec. 24, the Oconto County Sheriff's Office was called to a hit and run crash involving a pedestrian and a black Volkswagen vehicle with Missouri license plates. The location of the incident was on Highway D/Sampson Road near the off ramp of Highway 41 northbound in the town of Abrams.

During the investigation it was learned that prior to the hit and run incident, the pedestrian had been in a blue Chrysler Sebring that had been traveling north on Highway 41 before exiting on the Highway D exit. The unidentified Volkswagen had also been traveling north on Highway 41 before exiting on the Highway D exit.

Upon further investigation it was determined that near the State Patrol Weigh Scales a road rage type of incident occurred between the occupants of the Sebring and Volkswagen, causing the Sebring to travel onto the median side shoulder of Highway 41 at one point. Both vehicles then exited the highway onto the Highway D exit where a passenger of the Sebring exited their vehicle in an attempt to get the licenses plate of the Volkswagen. This person was then ultimately struck by the Volkswagen, which fled the scene.

The Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying the operator and possible occupants of the Volkswagen, and to also locate and identify the Volkswagen vehicle. If anyone has any information about the Volkswagen with Missouri licenses plates and/or information of the owner/occupants of that vehicle, call the Sheriff's Office at 920-834-4900.
