Northeast Wisconsin remembers President George H.W. Bush

People in Northeast Wisconsin remembered President George H.W. Bush the day after his death.

"For a new breeze is blowing, and a world refreshed by freedom seems reborn. For in man's heart ,if not in fact, the day of the dictator is over," said Bush.

It was in 1989, Bush delivered those words at his Inaugural Address.

Today members of the Republican Party of Brown County mourned the loss of the 41st President of the United States.

"I think his family helped shape him into a great leader. The Pierce family and the Bush family all believed in a life of service to country," said James Fitzgerald, an executive board member in the Republican Party of Brown County.

The Democratic Party of Brown County also expressed their condolences to the Bush family.

"He spoke about a kinder and gentler nation. Boy, could we use that right now," said Richard Langan, the vice chair of the Democratic Party of Brown County.

Joseph Prestley is a student at UWGB.

He said he doesn't agree with everything Bush did as president but is still remembering his leadership.

"He kind of took a different approach to leadership than we were used to. A lot of presidents were kind of big personalities, and he was kind of laid back. He was a caretaker of the United States as he considered it," said Prestley.

A caretaker of the United States, but a husband and father first.

"I'll take great pleasure, as will all Americans, in knowing that he's going to be reunited with his beloved Bar and daughter Robin for the holiday season," said Fitzgerald.
