Northeast Wisconsin prepares for winter

Posted

GREEN BAY, WI---- Winter seems to be officially upon us. Local highway departments are prepping and emergency responders are sending out warnings.

Ernie Winters, Winnebago County's Highway Commissioner, is ready for action with 32 trucks available and an abundance of salt.

“I wouldn't be surprised if we're brining some bridge decks and maybe some of the overpasses tonight just to get that little surface of chemical on there that will help the melt," says Winters.

However county leaders say people should be aware of the resources available to keep you safe.

Justin Steinbrinck with Brown County Emergency Management says social media is the perfect tool to keep track of road conditions and severe weather.

“We're able to get a really clear picture of what's going on why something is happening, how it's happening who it's affecting in a very short amount of time."

In this day in age, having the best resources available can make all the difference.
