From Green Bay to Greenville, communities across Northeast Wisconsin remembered the thousands of victims of September 11 Monday in different ways.

At the September 11 memorial site in Greenville, people reflected on the horror of that day 16 years ago that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people.

Schools across Northeast Wisconsin used the anniversary to teach students what happened, as many were not born or don't remember the terrorist attacks.

"Many civilians lost, firefighters lost and paramedics," said Jack Delsart, a West High School senior, "It was just an awful time in history."

At West High School in Green Bay, students walked up and down bleachers to get an idea of the amount of work and sweat it took firefighters to reach victims stuck in the World Trade Center towers.

Ultimately, 343 firefighters lost their lives on 9/11.

"For them to sacrifice all their lives, to put on all that weight to go save people and walk through all that smoke, it had to have been difficult," said Jazzlynn Koeller, a West High School senior.

Students walked about one-tenth of the length firefighters were forced to walk when they were trying to rescue victims.
