A newspaper delivery driver discovered and alerted fire crews to an early morning house fire in Fond du Lac.
Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue crews were called to a home on the 300 block of Ledgewood Avenue just before 5 a.m.
When crews arrived they found heavy smoke and fire at the home.
Crews say the fire started in the basement. Firefighters were able to stop the fire before serious damage was caused to the inside of the home.
No one was home at the time of the fire.
Fond du Lac fire crews say they plan to canvass the neighborhood Saturday, to give neighbors fire safety information and will perform home safety checks for anyone who wants to have their home evaluated.
