The NEW Zoo in Suamico reports Finnegan the moose, who arrived at the Brown County facility nearly a month ago, has died.
Zoo Curator, Carmen Murach, says the animal "died peacefully in his favorite resting spot in his exhibit." on Tuesday, October 25th.
Finnegan was born at the NEW Zoo but spent the majority of his life in Milwaukee. "He had been eating and behaving normally and had shown no signs of distress or acute illness earlier in the day on the 25t," a news release reads. Finnegan was 8 ½ years of age.
The moose had been underweight and was undergoing treatment for chronic health problems. A necropsy was performed and the NEW Zoo is awaiting laboratory results to see if there were any additional factors that might have contributed to his death.
