Having to get surgery is a scary thing for any of us.

Now HSHS St. Vincent Hospital is home to a  state-of-the-art robotic surgery technology to help make sure you recover faster.

It's the most advanced technology in the medical field. "It's the way of the future. most surgeons are coming out of school already robotically trained” says Penny LePine, Director Of Surgical Services.

The Da Vinci XI is the newest model of robotics for the medical world.

" What we find with robotics systems is that with the enhancement that occurs with the dexterity of the equipment, the range of motion with the equipment. the enhanced visualization  and magnification it makes these operations much easier much quicker" says Dr. Christopher Rupp, Surgeon Prevea Health.

The robotics is less invasive, has less complications and less post operative pain for the patients.HSHS St Vincent Hospital performs around 500 surgeries with the devices.

“We currently are able to do almost all general surgical procedures with this which essentially are abonminal operations, operations that occur in the abdomen and the pelvis as well" says Rupp.

The robot cost the hospital 2 million dollars but experts say that buying more robots is not out of the question.

"I think as the future evolves and more physicians are doing robotic surgery it's something that we will look at in the future right now were just getting going with this XI and it's been going very well" says LePine.

The new robotics system is equipped with three HD monitors and one 3D monitor.
