If you're heading out on the water at Cave Point Park in Door County this summer, you'll probably notice thew new safety signs. At least, the Coast Guard hopes you will.
After two people died when their kayakers overturned in the area earlier this year, the Coast Guard, along with local first responders, decided to put up the new safety signs.
The signs are aimed at kayakers and paddle boarders. They are by the dock to warn people of potential high waves and water temperature.
"The water temperature is somewhere around 43 degrees [in May], so even in the middle of summer the conditions are really poor if you fall out of your kayak," explained Jacksonport Fire Chief Tom Ash.
Ash said six times a year they are called out to the area.
