A new report shows the challenges women in Northeast Wisconsin face compared to men.
The Status of Women in Northeast Wisconsin Report was a collaboration between Women's Fund groups from Fond du Lac, Green Bay, Oshkosh and the Fox Valley.
It compared data with a report released in 2011 and is designed to give a comprehensive picture of the most pressing issues facing women and girls in Northeast Wisconsin.
Some of the key findings were:
- Poverty rates are higher among women than men across all age groups.
- 64% of households run by single mothers are in poverty.
- The wage gap is improving.
"The wage gap is actually somewhat of a bright spot that we've seen in this report," said Becky Boulanger with the Women's Fund of the Fox Valley Region. "There was slight improvement regionally in the wage gap for women in our area."
There has also been an increase in the number of women who own businesses in Northeast Wisconsin.
The Women's Fund groups said they hope to use the report to make an action plan to help women tackle these issues.
