On Nov. 14 at about 5:03 p.m. the New London Police Department responded to a car vs. pedestrian crash on Division Street near Bruce Street. The pedestrian that was involved in the accident is a 19-month-old girl from New London.

According to the parties involved and witnesses, it appears the mother of the 19-month-old child was adjusting a car seat in her vehicle while the 19-month-old child stood next to her. The child proceeded towards Division Street without the mother knowing and proceeded into the roadway.

A cargo van being driven by a 74-year-old New London man was traveling north on Division Street near Bruce Street and thought something hit his van. He turned around and stopped to see what it was. When he stopped he saw that it was a small child. The driver waited at the scene for police to arrive and has been cooperating with the police investigation. The child was in the street at the time of the crash. A witness to the accident called the police. Prior to the police arriving on scene, the mother of the child picked up the child who was laying in the street and brought her to the New London Hospital (ThedaCare New London), which is located about three blocks from the scene of the crash.

The child was released from the hospital after she received non-life threatening injuries from the crash, according to the New London police department, which continues to investigate the incident.
