New 'Code Red' system offers alerts during emergencies and disasters

Brown County introduced a new system Wednesday to help the community during a disaster or emergency.

“Code Red” is a free service offered to residents of Brown County that will alert people when you are in an area affected by a disaster or emergency event.

Leaders in Brown County say they just used this system on Monday to notify anyone within a mile radius to steer clear of the flooded areas in east Green Bay. Leaders say the service greatly helped those who had signed up for it.

You can sign up for Code Red online and opt in for alerts through your cell phone or home phone.

Not only does the system apply for weather related threats, but also for emergency events like Wednesday’s active shooter situation in Middleton.
