New app helps people with disabilities communicate easier

Posted
A new app is helping people with disabilities text.

The app is called iCanText and it gives people who cannot read or write the ability to text others.

It works by having a selection of pictures the person can choose and then it sends a text message to that pre-defined person, like a caregiver or relative.

The app was developed by Zach Edlund for his 10-year-old sister Bethany who cannot speak, read or write.

"Making this app was enabling her to press a picture and have it say what it does or say she needs to go to the bathroom, it will be able to text that to her mom or caregiver or anything like that," explained Edlund.

The app is available in the app store for iOS devices.
