Christmas is all about giving, right? But while you may not hear that from every kid, the reason for the season is far from lost on a kindergartner from Freedom.
Christmas is the season of giving and that is a lesson we can all learn from a kindergartner from Freedom Elementary.
You should never underestimate the kindness of kids because the moment you do, a story like this happens.
Decked out in holiday pajamas Mrs. Wilson's five and six year olds are preparing for one of biggest days of the year, for any kid.
"Are you excited about Christmas?” We asked Jack Pelkin of Freedom Elementary.
"Yes, cause I get to open presents," he says with a smile.
But don't let Jack's smile fool you because he’s also all about giving. He's at the top of his class when it comes to coloring on top of that.
"He is. He's a great color-er a great kid," says Kindergarten teacher Jenni Wilson of Freedom Elementary.
Jack is so good with markers and crayons that he ended up winning a bike from a local newspaper because of his skills.
The thing is Jack already has a bike. But he heard his buddy and classmate Edgar doesn't’t.
"They stoled it. They stole two bikes of mine," says Edgar Lopez-Hernandez.
While many kids this age would have a problem parting with their favorite color of marker, Jack's a giver.
"He was looking for a friend who doesn't have a bike and he found me," adds Edgar.
Maybe the kind gesture isn't completely comprehended by these kids, but every adult at Freedom Elementary was touched by the unexpected move when they heard about it.
"I cried along with a lot of other teachers," says Jack and Edgar’s teacher Jenni Wilson.
For everyone else preparing for the giving season, hopefully this small act of kindness from a child can serve as a reminder.
"If everybody was as sweet and kind as kindergartners the world would be such a much happier place," adds Wilson.
Edgar just sent a hand drawn thank you card to his buddy Jack for his new bike. Both boys appear to have been raised with great manners which is a testament to their teacher and parents.
