Neighbors Evacuated After Gas Leak

Posted
OCONTO FALLS, Wis.- A gas leak in Oconto Falls forces several families to evacuate their homes early Friday morning.

Oconto Falls Fire Chief, Tim Magnin says the call came in around 8 o'clock for the smell of natural gas in the home on the 100 block of North Adams Street.  When the fire department arrived they discovered lethal doses of natural gas seeping into the family’s basement.

"That house was full it pegged our meters so it was way up there," said Magnin.

Officials evacuated the home and several others on the block for two hours while they worked to correct the problem.

WE Energies, who repaired the leak, says it started because snow fell on a gas pipe causing it to break.  They say people need to clear those lines and continue to monitor them because as the snow melts it could pile up on your gas main again.
