The news team at NBC26 (WGBA-TV) has won the prestigious Chicago/Midwest Regional Emmy® award for Best Morning Newscast.
The NBC26 Today team won the Emmy for Outstanding Achievement for News Programming - Morning Newscast: Smaller Markets (51+) for team coverage of the historic snowstorm that slammed Northeast Wisconsin earlier this year. The storm dumped 24 inches of snow on Green Bay, collapsing roofs, closing schools and essentially shutting down the majority of our viewing area.
"This is an incredible achievement," said NBC26 General Manager Joe Antonelli. "I am very proud of our news team. It's a reflection of their dedication to bringing our viewers a high quality newscast and to keeping them informed. I am thrilled to see them recognized in this way."
The Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences presents the Emmy® awards in our region.
"This is a huge accomplishment for NBC26. I am so very proud of every person on our news team," said NBC26 News Director Julie Moravchik. "This Emmy represents hard work, teamwork, dedication, passion and talent. It takes every person on the team giving it their best every day in order to win this prestigious award."
NBC26 had crews canvass the viewing area in April 2018 to give viewers the most complete coverage of the "Storm of the Century." It was the second largest snowstorm in Green Bay history.
"I will never forget the moment they announced our morning show was the winner," said NBC26 Today Anchor Brooke Hafs. "Our crew gave everything they had to make it into work that night. One way or another we were getting there, even if we had to walk through nearly three feet of snow. We knew we had to get the newscast on the air, inform our viewers and keep them safe."
"It is an absolute honor to win an Emmy for Best Morning Newscast," said NBC26 Today Meteorologist Michael Fish. "We strive to make the best possible newscast every single day. When the weather is at its worst, our whole team is at its best. It's what we do."
