Sterling's death caused civil unrest across the United States for the days following the shooting. Baton Rouge Police were criticized by many protesters for heavy-handed police tactics during the protests following the arrests.
The shootings also come just days after police arrested three suspects after they were determined to be involved in a "credible" threat to kill or harm police. A fourth suspect remains at large in connection with the plot.
Since the shooting in Dallas, police have been on high alert.
