Pistachios recalled with possible Salmonella

Posted

The Food and Drug Administration announced Thursday that a variety of pistachios that are predominantly sold in California have been recalled due to possible Salmonella.

American Gourmet, the distributor of the pistachios, was informed by its supplier to initiate a voluntary recall. Customers are urged to return the product to their retailer.

Customer can identify the recalled products by finding the best by dates found on the lower bottom panel of the package.

The pistachios come in 2.5 ounce, 4 ounce and 7.5 ounce packaging and have an expiration date of Nov. 5, 2016 through Jan. 13, 2017.

No illnesses have been reported to date to the FDA.

According to the FDA, Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
