Court documents unsealed this week showed that a 16-year-old Iowa teen was found dead wearing a diaper, while lying on a feces-filled bedroom floor, the Des Moines Register reported.
According to the paper, Natalie Finn starved to death in October in her parents' West Des Moines home.
Parents Nicole and Joseph Finn have been held in jail since October. Mother Nicole is being charged with first-degree murder. Father Joseph is facing charges of kidnapping, neglect or abandonment and child endangerment.
Natalie, and two others, were adopted by the Finns.
The Register reports that officials paid a visit to the Finns in August, and found that the family had ample food in the house. They came to the conclusion that Natalie Finn was choosing not to eat, despite reports claiming that the teen was not eating. Officials did not follow up with physical examinations of the teen.
Natalie's 14-year-old sister was said to have tried to feed Natalie the morning of the teen's death, but the sister said she could not sit up on her own.
