The Appleton Police Department has arrested a woman for the death of her infant child in August 2015.

On August 27, 2015 at 4:09 a.m. the Appleton Police Department responded to 201 N. Story Street to investigate the report of a three month old who was not breathing.

Despite resuscitation efforts by first responders, the female child was declared deceased at a local hospital a short time later.

The subsequent investigation revealed that friends had gathered at the residence that evening.

Reports say the infant's mother became intoxicated during the get-together.

Later in the night, when she went to bed, she laid in the same makeshift bed her child had been placed in earlier in the evening.

As a result, the mother laid on top of the child during the night.

The autopsy listed the child's death as "asphyxia due to overlay."

On November 18, 2016 the Appleton Police Department, with the assistance of the Shawano Police Department took the mother into custody.

The mother is confined at the Outagamie County Jail on a charge for 2nd Degree Reckless Homicide.
