MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee police officers shot and killed a suspect in a fatal stabbing after he allegedly lunged at them with a knife.
Police say the shooting happened early Saturday as police were investigating the stabbing of a 64-year-old man.
The 49-year-old suspect initially fled the scene, but returned nearly two hours later and police say he lunged at them with a knife. Several officers shot at the man. A knife was recovered nearby.
Police say the man was a convicted felon from Milwaukee and was on probation for strangulation.
The officers involved are on administrative leave and the state Department of Justice will investigate.
