The police officer who shot and killed Milwaukee man Sylville Smith has been arrested for sexual assault, police said Thursday.
Dominique Heaggan-Brown was arrested Wednesday evening after being criminally charged earlier in the day. Police say that in August a victim told officers he had been sexually assaulted by Heaggan-Brown while off-duty.
The investigation that followed resulted in charges from the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office, as well as further charges from an internal MPD investigation.
Heaggan-Brown remains in custody and has been suspended from the Milwaukee Police Department.
Heaggan-Brown's shooting of Sylville Smith earlier this summer sparked two nights of violence in the Sherman Park neighborhood.
