The Mile of Music Scholarship awared a free instrument courtesy of Heid Music in Appleton.
Katrina Miller picked a new drum set after her essay won the competition. The scholarship supports local aspiring musicians.
Local business leaders say it is great to participate in the scholarship. Brian Gottlieb says, "What's really cool about this is that each year that has gone to music school here at Heid has actually then gone on to play at Mile of Music, so it just really brings everything full circle."
Katrina said she picked the drums because she has yet to learn the instrument. Katrina has learned guitar, piano, and clarinet.
