Miguel Cruz moved to Oshkosh from Steven's Point after separating from a long-term relationship. He says he wanted a fresh start and hoped to be on his own.

"I wanted to start my life over. I moved here so my sister opened up her doors to me and she didn't kick me out. It was my choice to move out. I wanted to be on my own." said Cruz.

Cruz said he wanted to out on his own and he found a room he believed was a good deal, but he said he didn't feel he was in a safe environment.

That's when he found Father Carr's Place 2B.

"I think I was just walking past and I stopped in. I didn't know what the place was. I though it was a hotel." said Cruz.

Father Carr's focuses on helping the poor and provides multiple services as a food pantry, free health clinic, housing and a faith based learning to help those struggling to get by.

Miguel saved every penny he made and was soon able to get a job in marketing, which eventually led to his new career with his own business, "Sample the City".

Sample the City provides deals and discounts to people while helping them discover local businesses in Oshkosh. Miguel says he wanted to focus on his business being a way to give back and bring awareness to other local non-profits.

Every book bought gives 50% of the profits back to local charities in the area. Miguel says he hopes his idea can help people experiencing homelessness.
