Menominee County Sheriff has passed away

MENOMINEE COUNT, Wis. - Menominee County Sheriff Robert "Butch" Summers has died.

The Menominee County Sheriff’s Department says Sheriff Summers passed away while in public office. His law enforcement career spanned more than 30 years.

During his career, he served as a member of the Menominee Tribal Police Department, Menominee County Sheriff's Department, and U.S. Marshal's Service.

His career in law enforcement culminated with his election as the Sheriff of Menominee County, where he served over the past eleven and a half years.

"Sheriff Summers was beloved by all those who knew him and he will be greatly missed by his law enforcement family," the Sheriff's Office said in a statement. "Our heartfelt condolences go out to his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends."

A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, October 6 at the Neopit Tribal School. Visitation is being held at the Neopit Community Center Friday, October 5th, until the time of services on Saturday.
