Tomorrow marks nearly one year since a deadly standoff in Neenah that took the life of Michael Funk.
Funk worked at Eagle Nation Cycles when Brian Flatoff allegedly took the employees hostage resulting in a shootout with police.
Sunday people gathered at a memorial outside the motorcycle shop to remember Funk.
The gathering was hailed by Funk's friends as a celebration of his life.
A Department of Justice investigation claims Funk was mistaken for an armed hostage by police who fatally shot him.
Since that determination a wrongful death lawsuit has been filed by Funk's wife.
Now one year later those who knew him say they're still healing.
"Well I guess there's been very little to help the healing process and I think this is be one of the few things that have been done that could go in that direction because there's a lot of questions that have gone unanswered," said Eagle Nation Cycles owner, Steve Erato.
Meanwhile the DOJ says both officers investigated for shooting Funk were determined not criminally responsible for his death.
Hostage taker, Brian Flatoff faces 16 felony charges including felony murder stemming from the standoff and gunfight with police.
