Wisconsinites opposed to the Senate health care bill met in Oshkosh Thursday night to discuss how the bill could affect the state.

Healthcare workers who work closely with people who rely on Medicaid told NBC26 they feel the proposed bill could have a negative impact on Wisconsinites.

The Senate health care bill is set to make significant cuts to Medicaid. Workers from Covey, an organization that works with the elderly and people with disabilities, said it's concerned if funds are cut, it could have long term effects on Wisconsin's future.

"One of your concerns with Medicaid is last year alone, we had 119 families utilize funds to assist with respiratory care and home care," said Harper Murk with Covey. "Without those funds, those clients and their families wouldn't be able to contribute back to their community."

Republicans in the state assembly passed a bill Thursday to prohibit denying health coverage to those with pre-existing conditions.

The vote prohibits an individual health insurance policy from reducing or denying a claim.

Democrats objected, saying Republicans should have voted on their proposal to ban lifetime limits on coverage.
