Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt is trying to stop the city council from pursuing avenues to remove him from office.
Wednesday, Schmitt's attorney filed a petition asking a judge to stop an upcoming hearing on the matter.
The attorney claims the council has no lawful basis to proceed.
This stems from Schmitt’s guilty pleas to campaign finance violations.
