Manitowoc police are warning of another phone scam affecting people in the area.
The caller targeted a woman living in rural Manitowoc County, claiming to be Deputy Chief Rob Barbier with the Manitowoc Police Department.
She received two different calls from this scammer.
During the call, the person said that Manitowoc Police were working with "major metropolitan police department on the east coast to try and capture persons responsible for scams in the Manitowoc area."
The caller went on to tell the woman that her cooperation would help the case very much as 'scammers' were attempting to obtain a $600,000 payout of life insurance from the woman's late husband.
The woman was asked to give $900 in order to help catch the scammers.
Manitowoc Police say the woman did not give the caller any money.
The Manitowoc Police department says they would never ask anyone to send money to a third party to help catch a scammer.
If you've received a call from anyone claiming to be a police officer, ask the officer for their information, terminate the call and then call the Manitowoc Police Department directly at (920) 686 6500.
Police also suggest that adult children educate their elderly parents about different types of scams so that their parents do not become victims.
