Manitowoc Police officers are used to helping out the community, but one went above and beyond to help a little boy having a tough time at the hospital.

A boy named Brandon was admitted to Holy Family Memorial Monday after he wasn't feeling well following a tonsillectomy last Friday, according to a Facebook post by his mother.

The little boy had a fever and was severely dehydrated, so he had to receive an IV, his mother said.

After telling a male nurse that Brandon liked policemen, firemen and EMTs, the nurse disappeared and returned with Manitowoc Officer Ron Ploeder.

Officer Ploeder stayed with Brandon, showing him some police gadgets and distracting him from any pain, according to Brandon's mother.

The Manitowoc Police Department then reached out to Brandon on Facebook Tuesday:

"Talk about outstanding participation from the heroes of our community!" said Keisha Kendrick, Brandon's mother, on Facebook.
