At about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Manitowoc Police were dispatched to a home in the 400 block of North Fifth Street. The landlord had been checking on his property and discovered that his tenant appeared to not have been at the home for the last two weeks.

The landlord stated there were two dogs within the residence that were malnourished. Officers responded to the residence and found that the landlord had already entered the residence and removed the two dogs from inside the home. The dogs were two large breed dogs and both appeared to not have had sufficient food or water for some time. The dogs were brought to the Manitowoc Humane Society where they are being cared for and are expected to survive.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the residence and obtained additional evidence of animal neglect.

The 26-year-old renter of the property was contacted and she informed officers that she had moved out of the residence temporarily and was currently living at her mothers’ home.

Two misdemeanor charges of failure to provide proper shelter and proper food or drink to confined animals have been referred to the District Attorney’s Office. Her name is not being released at this time as she has not yet been formally charged.
