It's a big day for a special Olympian out of Manitowoc, as the city honors her for her achievements.
Heidi Van Abel returned from competing in the Special Olympics world winter games in Austria earlier this week.
On Thursday, she got the celebrity treatment with the city cheering her on as a full police escort cleared the way as she went to her swimming practice with the Manitowoc Miracles swim team.
"Special Olympics is a big part of all of our lives, and we have two kids that are in it," says Van Abel's coach. "It's a great opportunity for a lot of the athletes and we love it."
While she was in Austria, Van Abel took home a silver medal in cross country skiing.
