At 4 a.m. Monday, Manitowoc Police received a call about a burglary in progress in the 1200 block of South 20th Street.

The caller told dispatch that she observed a white man walking out of her garage carrying items. She yelled at the man through an open window and he ran from the area on foot. The caller's adult son who was at the residence got into a vehicle to chase the man, who entered a vehicle in the area of South 19th and Madison streets.

A responding officer observed these two vehicles near South 19th and Madison streets and the caller's son pointed out the man and his vehicle to the officer as it left the area with no lights on. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the man, however he quickly accelerated and began to flee the scene with the officer in pursuit. The man made numerous turns to try and lose the pursuing officer. The pursuit covered a distance of about 1.5 miles and at one point the suspect drove on the sidewalk in the 1800 block of Division Street for about a half block before moving back onto eastbound Division Street and accelerating to speeds estimated to be 80 to 90 miles per hour, not stopping or slowing for stop signs at South 16th, South 14th or South 10th streets. The suspect pulled over in the 900 block of Division Street and ran off on foot. Responding officers quickly set up a perimeter and the suspect was captured in the 1600 block of South 13th Street.

The man, 28-year-old Daniel W. Fabian of Manitowoc, admitted to entering the caller's garage and one other garage in the immediate area, though he could not recall the exact address. At this time, Fabian is charged with one count of burglary, possession of burglary tools, felony fleeing, felony possession of marijuana, prowling and numerous traffic offenses.

Several items stolen from the callers garage were recovered. Officers also recovered an electric hedge trimmer and a blue duel tank air compressor, but police don't know what residence Fabian stole these items from.

Citizens are asked to check their garages and contact Detective David McCue at 920-686-6570 if they are missing these items. Another charge of burglary is pending against Fabian once the location of where the other items were stolen from is identified.
