The Manitowoc County Sheriff's Department is conducting an open water search for a possible drowning victim in Lake Michigan near Hika Bay Park in Cleveland.
At 6:37 p.m. May 1, the Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center received a report of a person in Lake Michigan appearing to be in distress. Witnesses observed the subject go under the water without resurfacing. EMS and law enforcement responded to the area and searched for the victim for about six hours and were unable to locate the subject.
An unoccupied vehicle located in the parking area at Hika Bay Park Boat Launch. The preliminary investigation suggests the registered owner may be the victim.
The Manitowoc County SCUBA team is continuing to search for the victim today.
The Cleveland Fire Department, Cleveland First Responders, Manitowoc Fire Department, Manitowoc Fire and Rescue, Cleveland Police Department and US Coast Guard are assisting with this active investigation.
