A Manitowoc athlete is bringing home a silver medal from the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria.
Heidi Van Abel finished second in the 1K cross country skiing event.
"Towards the end I was doing this really fast, and that's how I won," Van Abel said. "I was pretty exhilarated."
She also won a sixth place ribbon in a team event, and has one more race Wednesday.
The Opening Ceremony was on Saturday and 107 countries are represented.
The U.S. team has 139 athletes, including three from Wisconsin.
