A man convicted of holding a woman against her will, battery, and sexually assaulting her was sentenced Friday in Brown County Court.
Ferguson was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison and 10 years of extended supervision. He will also have to undergo sex offender treatment over the next 20 years.
Ferguson originally faced 7 charges. He pleaded no contest to two charges of battery, recklessly endangering safety, and 2nd degree sexual assault in April. Other charges were read-in and dismissed.
According to court documents the woman met Ferguson at his home. Ferguson became violent and punched her in the face and held her for hostage for 6 days. The complaint states he repeatedly sexually assaulted her over those days and stabbed her in the arm.
"Finally I think there's a need to protect the public particularly women from Mr. Ferguson," said the prosecuting attorney. "I think he's going to need tight rehabilitative parole when he is released back into the community to ensure that this kind of thing never happens again.”
According to the criminal complaint, Ferguson, was prohibited from having contact with the victim as a term of probation from a previous domestic violence incident.
Friday the judge told Ferguson he committed serious offenses and reminded him of the horrifying experience for his victim who has nightmares and anxiety now.
The defense and prosecuting attorney agreed to the sentencing and said it was also necessary for Ferguson to undergo sex offender treatment over the next 20 years. Records indicate Ferguson has a past history of domestic violence.
The judge noted that Ferguson’s past history of violence, even as a child, may have been a red flag of future violence.
