A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Marinette County.
The Marinette County Sheriff's Office said the incident started just after midnight Thursday at a motel in the City of Marinette.
The suspect had a handgun and officers said it is still unclear if this was some type of robbery attempt or domestic incident.
Officers said through the investigation it was determined the suspect may be at or near a residence on State Highway 64 in the Town of Peshtigo.
Officers saw a man enter a vehicle and flee westbound on Highway 64.
Deputies said the suspect exited the vehicle after going into the ditch near Schacht Road and had a handgun that placed officers in danger.
The suspect was shot by officers and died at the scene. Officers said the man is not someone known to law enforcement and it could be some time before they have a positive identification.
The shooting involved two City of Marinette Police officers and two Marinette County Sheriff's deputies and no officer was injured.
They will all be placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
The public is not in any danger.
State Highway 64 will be closed and detoured for several hours as the State Department of Justice investigates.
