The Appleton Police Department along with the help of the Wisconsin State Patrol, is investigating a train verses pedestrian incident.
It happened just before 3:00 Sunday afternoon in the area of Locust Street and West Lawrence Street near the city's downtown.
A 19-year-old Appleton man was found at the scene. According to police the man was suffering from a significant head injury, but those injuries did not appear to be life threatening. That man was taken by an ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
According to police the preliminary investigation shows the man was walking north on the sidewalk on the east side of Locust Street. The 11 car and two engine train came to the intersection and saw the man. The train engineer reportedly attempted to brake the train and use whistles to alert the man, but that man continue to walk along the sidewalk.
The Canadian National train wasn't able to stop and hit that man.
Currently investigators are working to reconstruct the incident. The Canadian National Railway is also helping law enforcement.
