Bond has been set at $500,000 for a man accused of strangling and stabbing his sister in Eau Claire County.
Seventy-three-year-old James Bonczkowski, of Racine, appeared in court Monday by video conferencing. He was arrested for killing his sister, Alexandra Marifke at her Town of Bridge Creek home over the weekend. He has not been formally charged.
Prosecutors say the woman had at least six stab wounds, including one with a knitting needle. An autopsy determined she died of "complex homicidal violence" and asphyxiation.
A defense attorney raised the issue of Bonczkowski's competency and said he has dementia. A judge has ordered an evaluation. The defendant is due back in court Thursday.
