The New Holstein Fire Department is investigating a fatal fire.

Around 9:30p on December 8th the New Holstein Fire and Police responded to a call of smoke in the area of Monroe Street.

When they arrived they found the residence at 1713 Monroe St. was on fire.

Emergency personnel say they tried to enter the home because it was believed the resident was still in the home, but say because of the extreme heat that was coming from the house they were unable to enter.

After several hours the fire was contained and emergency personnel found a 47-year-old man deceased in the home.

The fire remains under investigation at this time.
