A Green Bay man has been charged for allegedly causing a crash in the Town of Glenmore that killed his girlfriend in August 2016.

Jonathan Mateo, 24, was charged with Second Degree Reckless Homicide, Homicide by Vehicle - Use of Controlled Substance and Operating with Restricted Controlled Substance in Blood.

According to a criminal complaint, deputies were called to County Highway NN for a rollover. Mateo told police he and 19-year-old Samantha Rodriguez were arguing in the car when she allegedly pushed him and forced him to lose control of the car, court documents said.

Neither Mateo nor Rodriguez were wearing seatbelts. The car flipped over and ended up in a ditch, court documents said. Rodriguez was ejected and died at the scene, according to police.

Mateo suffered minor injuries, but he tested positive for THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, police said.

If convicted, Mateo could face nearly 65 years behind bars.
