The man accused of stabbing and injuring two people during a bar fight in Appleton appeared in Outagamie County court Wednesday.

Luis Avila, 42, of Appleton was charged with first degree reckless injury and carrying a concealed knife for allegedly stabbing two men Saturday night at Dieter's Ale Haus on E. Northland Ave.

He's being held on a $50,000 cash bond.

Avila was at the bar with two friends, a married couple, when a fight broke out between his friend and others in the bar, court documents said.

Avila joined the fight, which he said included up to eight people, and stabbed two men, according to the criminal complaint. The woman he has been dating on-and-off told police he then called her to pick him up from the bar.

Court documents said Avila told her "I'm probably going to go to jail."

He also told her the stabbing was in self-defense, the criminal complaint said.

The two men Avila allegedly stabbed were both taken to the hospital. One suffered life-threatening injuries from a stab wound in the back.

He was bleeding internally and needed to have a lung removed, doctors said in the criminal complaint.

Officers found the knife allegedly used in the incident on a roof near the bar.

Avila can't have any alcohol or go to places that serve alcohol. He also cannot have any weapons or go to Dieter's Ale Haus.

He will be back in court September 14.
