Local woman inspired while running Boston Marathon

Posted

It was an incredible story at Monday's Boston Marathon, when Desiree Linden, 34, became the first American woman to win since 1985.

Linden is also a two time Olympian.

A De Pere woman also ran in her 8th Boston Marathon Monday.

Carrie Miller says when Linden was announced the winner of the race, it gave her an extra boost to finish the marathon.

"I think I was at Mile 18 when the course officials announced it to the runners so it gave me a great momentum boost when I heard that Desy won the race" said Miller.

"And that shows you too that she thought she was going to drop out of the race at mile 6. She told her running friend that she probably wasn't going to finish and if she could help the other girl in the race and she ended up turning it around and winning".

There's no rest for the weary though, as Miller is now preparing to fly across the pond, and run in the London Marathon this weekend.
