Local volunteers with the Red Cross are deploying with a van to help with tropical storm Florence this week, while Jake's Diapers is helping supply basic needs.

The Red Cross volunteers will be driving the disaster relief van to affected areas.

Volunteers said that the van helps them bring down food and beverages for people in need.

"Hydration is paramount," volunteer Craig Holmes said. "Especially in an area where it's so warm like that, once the skies clear off it's going to be very warm and people have a tendency to dehydrate, so they need a lot of water."

A diaper bank in Kaukauna is also helping meet the needs for the people affected.

Jake's Diapers is working with partners in North Carolina to help supply basic hygiene products.

Officials said that these necessities are often overlooked, and federal disaster relief programs do not allocate for the costs of hygiene products.
