GREEN BAY, Wis. (NBC 26) -- The YWCA has been chosen to participate in Give Big Green Bay for a second year.
The YWCA has been a part of the Greater Green Bay community for more than 100 years.
Their mission is to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
"You might join for the fitness, but you maintain the membership because of the mission," said Sally Dery, a YWCA member.
Sally has been a member since the 8th grade when she joined the swim team.
She starts most days with a rise and shine yoga session, and some laps in the pool.
"It's just the greatest way to start the day," said Dery. "You see familiar faces and everyone is warm and welcoming."
Whether you're a kid, teen, young adult or older, there is something for every stage of your life.
Their programs and events are designed to promote lifelong learning and wellness while embracing diversity and enriching the lives of families.
"We invite our community members to come in to have open and safe conversations about creating an inclusive community," said Amy Schaeuble, the Executive Director at the YWCA.
They set women up for success in hopes that they can find financial security and independence.
The YWCA offers a Women's Career Closet.
"Once they go to that first interview and they feel good about themselves and how they look, they can come back and do some shopping for clothes that will help them continue that," said Schaeuble.
It starts even earlier than that. The YWCA is aiming to inspire girls at a young age.
The TechGIRL STEAM Program encourages young girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
"These are under-resourced girls that we want to make sure have an opportunity in this field," said Schaeuble.
These are just a few examples of programs that are essential to women, children and families in the Green Bay area.
"It centers me. It grounds me," said Dery. "It's like family.
With the support of the community, hopefully they can continue for another 100 years.
