GREEN BAY — With the summer heat finally here, Wisconsin Public Service is sharing some tips for people to manage their energy bills in the summer months.

To help cut back costs on energy bills during the summer, they advise people to get their air conditioning unit checked. Doing that can help create a more efficient running AC unit. WPS is not advising people to cut back on air conditioning usage, but they say running with an up to date air conditioner could help with costs.

Also, they advise using more fans. They are cheap and help move cool around in a home. They say setting a thermostat to 78 degrees and having fans help circulate the air will help people keep cool and maybe save some money.

"A fan running 8 hours per day costs around 2 dollars a month, and again it helps keep areas cooler and it helps lowering the temperature on the thermostat to be able to run less frequently,” says Wisconsin Public Services spokesperson Matt Cullen.

WPS also advises people get smart thermostats. They say those are designed to help keep temperature in a home or apartment at a certain temperature throughout the day. You can set it to where it doesn't run while you’re not home, thus saving you some money and energy with air conditioning.
