GREEN BAY (NBC26) - Thousands of pounds of drugs were collected across the state Saturday for Prescription Drug take-Back Day.
It's part of a national effort to get rid of unused or expired medicine in your homes. A few pop-up locations were held in our area including at the Allouez Village Hall.
Brown County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Vogel says many people asked what happens next to the drugs.
"They're very curious about how they're disposed of," Vogel said. "It's a specialized insinerator that burns and controls all the smoke. It's not even in the state."
Vogel added that Wisconsin is third in the nation for the amount of drugs we collect for the event.
If you missed Saturday's event, Vogel said there are permanent drop off boxes located at the Brown County Sheriff's Office, as well as at Allouez Village Hall.
