WINNEBAGO COUNTY (NBC 26) -- The Winnebago County Health Department reported 74 new positive COVID-19 cases Thursday. Health officials said that's the most cases reported on a single day to date.
"We believe this surge is due in large part to pent-up demand for testing that occurred because of limited testing options over the holiday weekend," the health department stated in a news release.
Latest numbers from the health department show 1,606 positive coronavirus test results in Winnebago County as of Thursday.
Of the latest 74 cases, 26 of them were young adults aged 18 to 24. Eleven of the cases were people in their 30s. Five cases were children under the age of 10.
