ASHWAUBENON, Wis — (NBC 26) -- At Ashwaubenon's Lighthouse Christian Books, a business that has held it's ground in the community for 43 years, staff members are weathering a storm today that the whole nation is experiencing simultaneously.
Due to the continued spread of Covid19, management at the bookstore has decided to limit their employees for the time being, to just one. Matt Connaher, an employee at the shop for just over 15 years, is the only staff member managing the shop right now. He says in the last week sales are likely down over 50 percent and because of the drastic circumstances they are facing, the owners have had to temporarily let go of ten plus additional staff members.
But the business is still managing to stay open, because they are offering free deliveries for purchases over 50 dollars and also curbside pickup for orders customer. Today, Connaher is encouraging potential customers to check out their facebook page and see the variety of gifts, books, and merchandise they have available. Connaher, says if customers aren't sure what they are looking for precisely, he's available through a phone call at 920-497-0636, Monday through Friday at the store, to discuss gift ideas they have available. Unfortunately, at this time no customers are allowed in the store so Connaher is making himself available via phone or Facebook.
"I would say don't forget about the other small businesses. Certainly, I know online is a convenient thing. But, there is a lot of things in the community that don't have a big web representation. So call them, a lot of them are there, looking and waiting for you."
Items for sale include Bibles of course, but they also offer a variety of self improvement books, activity books for kids, baptism, wedding, confirmation, and first communion gifts as well. If you want to shop local and talk to an expert about the perfect gift idea for your upcoming occasion, Connaher is ready to facilitate calls.
